MetaMask validators closed: balance dropped from 32 to 29 ETH, is this normal?

Hi everyone, I need help understanding what’s happening with my MetaMask validators. In short: I was staking with MetaMask and had 32 ETH. After the announcement about the closure/withdrawal of validators (late September 2026), I now have 29 ETH available to withdraw and I don’t understand why there’s this difference.

Has anyone had the same experience? Thanks to anyone who can help me understand.

Hi, it looks like you have two validators. Your first validator is currently “Withdrawal ready,” and it shows 29.4574 ETH available for withdrawal. Could you please try searching for it on the Beacon Chain and check your exact balance, as recommended in MetaMask documentation?

Due to how the Ethereum protocol works, your balance may also include some rewards that are not yet claimable. Rewards are swept from validators approximately every nine days, and at that point, they are removed from your validator balance.

If you still have an issue after checking your balance, please try opening a support ticket through MetaMask Support. And always be careful of scams—support will never DM you or ask for private info.

Thanks u so much. I checked the Beacon Chain and I can see 32 ETH plus 0.73 ETH in rewards. If I click the “claim” button, which amount will I actually receive?

I’d also like to reactivate staking afterwards. Any advice on that would be appreciated.

Probably my balance is 29 ETH because it is a snapshot mid-exit, before all rewards were counted

I think the safest way to confirm the exact amount is to click the claim button and look at the withdrawal review screen before signing.

If you want to reactivate staking afterward, I’d recommend waiting until the validator withdrawal is completely settled in your wallet, then star a new validator

I wouldn’t assume the old validator can simply be reactivated. Once a validator has fully exited, it is no longer active and no longer earns rewards.

I understand the problem, the MetaMask interface calculates the 10% fee on the entire amount of 32.73 and not just on the rewards, in fact 10% of 32.73 is 29.457. It’s a bug and I think I’ll open the ticket to support.
