Hello MetaMask team,
I’d like to suggest a new feature that would greatly enhance the user experience for those who actively manage their crypto portfolios directly through MetaMask.
Currently, MetaMask allows us to see our balances and token values, but it doesn’t provide insight into our profit or loss over time. It would be extremely useful to have a profit/loss tracking system per cryptocurrency, based on the actual purchase price (or an average cost basis if multiple purchases were made over time).
Key points of the feature:
Automatically calculate the average purchase price for each token held.
Display current value vs. cost basis to show unrealized gains or losses.
Allow users to manually input or import historical transactions if they were made outside of MetaMask (to improve accuracy).
Possibly integrate with on-chain data or portfolio tracking APIs to keep everything consistent with blockchain records.
Offer both token-level and portfolio-level performance tracking.
This kind of functionality is standard on major exchanges and portfolio apps, and bringing it to MetaMask would make it far easier for users to track their investment performance directly from their wallet — without relying on third-party tools.
It would also help users better understand their tax position and trading performance, while keeping all data private and decentralized.
Thank you for considering this improvement — it would be a major step toward making MetaMask a full-featured wallet and portfolio manager.
