Remove/Delete account from wallet

Description: Delete/Remove Account from Wallet

Purpose: I have too many accounts on my wallet, one is imported from my father and brother we started in the beginning with, and one is created on accident, while importing the first account.. So I have 2 accounts I don‘t really need, and want to remove, so I can work on my 2 networks I use.

Hi, you can remove imported accounts but you can’t delete accounts created/ added using the “Create a new account” function. You could hide the accounts that you can’t delete so they don’t apear in the accounts list but in a separate list under the accounts list.

Oh, but I don‘t have that function to hide an account..

Please reach out to our support team here at https://support.metamask.io/ by clicking “Start a converation” so they can take a closer look into what might cause this.

To add to this hiding is an insufficient action for deletion of accounts that require reserve amounts. XRP, XLM, HBAR for example. It would be nice to be able to close those out completely. Exodus is doing that. I also have dust amounts of SOL and ETH I would like to send but I am unable to.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

If I understand what you mean, there are two separate things here: hiding an account in MetaMask and actually closing an account on the underlying network.

For accounts created from your Secret Recovery Phrase, MetaMask generally can’t permanently remove the account from the wallet because the address is derived from the SRP and remains on-chain. Hiding it only removes it from your main account view.

For networks that support account deletion/closure, such as XRPL, the situation is a little different. For example, XRPL has an AccountDelete transaction that can close an eligible account and send most of its remaining XRP elsewhere, subject to the network’s requirements and transaction cost.

Regarding the SOL/ETH dust, if you’re unable to send the remaining balance, one possibility is that the amount is too small to cover the network fee. The exact reason would depend on the account and transaction, though.

So I think the feature request you’re describing is less about simply “removing an account from MetaMask” and more about helping users properly empty/close accounts where the underlying network supports it, including dealing with small leftover balances.

No error that I can tell. The ETH amount is below the gas fee amount and I don’t know why but MetaMask won’t let me send all my SOL it insists that I have no less than $0.08 USD of SOL in the wallet

Just to clarify, Solana transaction fees are paid in SOL, since SOL is the network’s native token, not ETH.

When you’re sending SOL from the wallet, you generally can’t send the entire balance because some SOL needs to remain available to cover the transaction/network fee. The exact fee isn’t necessarily a fixed $0.08 and can vary depending on the transaction.

So if you’re trying to send your entire SOL balance, MetaMask may require you to leave enough SOL behind to cover the network fee.
