I am learning how to use MetaMask more safely when interacting with online gaming dApps and other third-party platforms.
This is not a casino promotion, and I am not sharing any referral, bonus, or platform link. I would like to understand the best privacy and wallet-safety practices for beginners.
Here are some precautions I currently follow:
1. Use a separate wallet for dApps
I prefer not to connect a wallet containing my main crypto holdings. A separate wallet with only the amount required for transactions appears to be a safer approach.
2. Verify the website carefully
Before connecting MetaMask, I check the complete website address and avoid links received through unknown messages, advertisements, or unofficial social media accounts.
3. Review every connection and permission
I read the MetaMask prompt before accepting it and check:
- Which account is being connected
- Which network is selected
- What permission the dApp is requesting
- Whether I am connecting, signing a message, or approving a transaction
- How much token access is being requested
4. Avoid unnecessary unlimited approvals
Where possible, I prefer setting a limited spending cap rather than giving a smart contract unlimited access to a token.
5. Disconnect and revoke permissions
I understand that disconnecting a wallet from a dApp and revoking token approvals are not necessarily the same action.
After I stop using a dApp, I review both its wallet connection and any remaining token approvals.
6. Protect personal wallet information
I never share my Secret Recovery Phrase, private key, password, or screen recording showing sensitive wallet information.
Because this is a public forum, I would also avoid unnecessarily connecting my wallet address or transaction history with my real name, email address, or other personal information.
7. Check the network and transaction details
Before confirming a transaction, I check the network, receiving address, token, amount, and estimated fee.
I also avoid rushing through MetaMask prompts because blockchain transactions may not be reversible after confirmation.
8. Use MetaMask privacy and security settings
Beginners should review the available privacy preferences, use a strong and unique password, enable auto-lock, keep their browser and wallet extension updated, and connect only to websites they trust.
