Metamask Firefox Extension:: enable only on specified websites to prevent broken websites

Description: Ability to enable MetaMask Firefox Extension only on specified websites. Currently, the extension is injecting its script to all pages, unconditionally, which breaks some websites (and also wastes resources).

AI says that this would be supported via Firefox’s native permissioning functionality IF the extension requests its host permissions as optional ( optional_host_permissions in the manifest). I did not check whether this claim is true or not, because this is about ‘how’ to implement this rather than the ‘what’ to implement and why.

Purpose: To prevent some websites breaking mysteriously. It is not obvious to the user that MetaMask is the culprit, and it takes a lot of time to narrow down the culpript.

When MetaMask Firefox extension is enabled, the layout is broken on a particular page on the PayPal website. You can try for yourself: the page is under Settings → Payments → Autopay, direct link: www . paypal . com/myaccount/autopay
Perhaps to reproduce, it might depend on how long and which exact items are in the list on that autopay page. But, the layout breaks completely, to the point where the page is no longer usable.

Extension/Mobile/Both: Firefox Extension

Images/Attachments: I do have a screenshot if you’re really curious, but for privacy reasons, I’ll keep it private. Trust me that layout completely breaks, and if extension is disabled, then layout is good.

Thank you for considering. If you want me to report this as a bug on GitHub, I can. Technically, even if this feature request is not implement, and extension remains unconditionally applied to all websites, there is still some kind of issue that causes it to break layout, possibly could be bugfixed (maybe). I just don’t want to create too much noise for developers, so reporting here.

Hi there! Thanks for the feedback and creating the feature request. That will surely be a useful privacy and usability enhancement.
You can report that to the MetaMask support team at https://support.metamask.io/
Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to locate the “Contact support section”. You may get an automated response from the AI bot at first, but it will link you up to a human agent after answering a few questions. You can also type the word “Agent” to be quickly linked up.

Hey! I will share this with the team too. Thanks!
