Token autodetection is broken

Description:

I have token auto-detection turned off. The feature is broken, so it auto-imports every single bullshit scam token my wallet receives. Hiding hundreds of tokens, which shouldn’t be displayed in the first place, is highly annoying and tedious. Additionally the “hide token” feature is not always working and the process has to be repeated multiple times to actually hide some of the tokens.

There is no way to bulk-select and hide multiple tokens as well. MetaMask imported HUNDREDS of tokens, even with auto-detect being OFF. Which makes this whole thing ultra annoying as now they need to be removed one by one. The action has to be repeated for every single one of hundreds of scam tokens, sometimes multiple times as “hide token” isn’t reliably working.

The process right now looks like this:

  1. Token tab on the MM overview
  2. Open token (which shouldn’t have been imported!!!)
  3. Click settings panel
  4. Click hide token
  5. Confirm token hiding
  6. Go back to the main page
  7. Check if the token was removed, if not you need to repeat the actions above, sometimes multiple times before the token actually disappears.
  8. Repeat for all the other tokens

Considering there are hundreds of tokens, this will take hours.

The auto-import needs to be fixed ASAP. Bulk removal needs to be added. A button to “remove all tokens beside native gas token and ETH/WETH/USDC” needs to be implemented as well.

While going through the list I noticed that some tokens won’t be removed no matter how many times you tried. On ETH I’m currently down to 3 tokens that I’ve tried to deleted over ten times each. They don’t disappear now matter how often you try. On other networks the token list is way longer…

This can be done faster via “manage tokens” and the toggle there.

The issue is that after opening the wallet again all those scam tokens get auto-imported again. The auto detect is OFF. I even tried toggling it ON and OFF again, but even if you manually remove all tokens they will get auto-imported the next time you open your wallet. HIGHLY annoying issue.

Additionally:

Even when you cleaned up the token list, they STILL show up when you try to send something.

The list includes hundreds of tokens and hundreds of “blank” spaces that only show the network icon + blank name. Another highly annoying thing, especially if you hold actual tokens on that network. The tokens you HAVE and WANT in your lists are hidden somewhere between a long list of tokens that shouldn’t be displaying.

This quite literally makes the MM wallet unusable.

Purpose:

Self explanatory.

Extension/Mobile/Both:

Both. First noticed on Chrome extension 13.42.0

Not needed. Self explanatory issue.

Hello  thanks for the feedback! The team reviews all feedback, and if needed, it will definitely be considered for a future update.

Also, you can press and hold on the scam token you want to hide for about a second, then tap the Hide button. It should work properly that way ,I just tested it myself.

This literally doesn’t solve anything. Read my post again. The tokens get auto imported again and again and again. And even directly after being hidden, they still show in the “send” list.

When you have hundreds of tokens imported, even though auto import is off, then manually pressing on each of them for a second to remove them, and repeating this process over hundreds of times - will take A LONG time. And then they get auto imported again.

This should be seen as a high priority issue because it literally makes the wallet unusable.

See here:

Directly after removing all tokens that shouldn’t be there:

Going to “send” - which still includes all those tokens:

As you can see, things like WETH and USDC are hidden in between hundreds of spam tokens that shouldn’t be there.

Here is how that looks like on ETH:

Yes, you’re right. It can definitely be time-consuming for users to remove scam tokens one by one. I’ll make sure to report this to the team and suggest adding an option that allows users to hide scam tokens in bulk, and also ensures that once a token is hidden, it no longer appears in the Send section

Sorry about this experience. In addition to what @Oxsoltani share above, you can also share this issue with the MetaMask support team at https://support.metamask.io
Thanks for the details feedbacks

I just tested it myself. I hid a token, and afterward it no longer appeared in the Send section for me. I’m not sure exactly how this works on your end, though, so please make sure your wallet is updated to the latest version and try again

Just reported it there as well.

I am on the latest chrome extension - 13.42.0

The issue first started there. When “backup and sync” is applied, this issue affects the mobile wallet as well because the tokens keep importing on mobile. You need to turn that feature off and then MANUALLY remove the tokens on the mobile app. The mobile app works fine then. But the issue persists on the chrome extension.

Yes, I understand. I’ve already reported this issue to the team. If you’ve already contacted support, you can wait for their response. Also, if there are any updates or new information about this issue, I’ll let you know here as well :slightly_smiling_face:

I also tested the hiding feature as well. The tokens simply remained hidden for me and they didn’t show up in the list while trying to send a token. That’s why I think it is better if they can reach out to the support team regarding that.
Those feedbacks are useful anyway

Yes David, it was the same for me. The scam token was hidden and no longer appears. For example, in this screenshot, I hid the BooMer token, then went to the Send section and searched for it, and it no longer showed up.

Here is how that looks on my end on the newest chrome extension.

Upladed the .gif to imgur as it’s too big to directly upload:

i.imgur. com/dlLIBbe.gif

(It’s about 1 minute of scrolling through removed tokens, overview of the blank token list, send list still showing all those tokens)

Have you gotten any response from the support team yet?

Not yet. Been waiting since I’ve made this thread. The bot just repeatedly asks me if I’m still there but no actual human has responded. I’ve uploaded the video directly in that chat (the one I’ve made the long .gif from) but it hasn’t been seen by any actual human.

You can ask the bot to connect you with a support agent, and then you should be able to open a support ticket

I tried to view the video you uploaded, but I couldn’t find it. You can continue with the same support team, and if needed, you can send them any additional information or the video again directly through the support chat.

Just as Ox said, typing “agent” or “human” should prompt the bot to ask you if you want to talk to a human…
btw, when usdc and other value tokens dissapear among scam stuff, its because its not loading the $ value of those tokens for some reason…do you see value in $ at the right of the tokens that actually have some value ? because when that works, those are on the top and its $ highest to lowest…

I am waiting on a human agent already. The bot just does automated checks asking if I’m there and want to stay in queue. Been waiting on a human for a long time already.

Please just exercise some patience. You will surely be attended to by a human agent as soon as possible

I’ve been waiting for like an hour & need to reply to the bot every 5 minutes to keep my place in queue. All the details and the video of the issue are in that chat. Can i just close it? Or does closing the chat also remove the ticket? I don’t want to waste any more time and having to reply to the damn bot every few minutes is highly annoying.

Please type “connect me to a support agent” into the bot.
