Description:

Integrate support for RNS (RIF Name Service) into MetaMask to enable human-readable blockchain addresses across multiple networks. RNS is a decentralized naming system built on Rootstock and has evolved into a multichain name service compatible with various EVM-compatible networks.

With this integration, MetaMask users will be able to resolve .rsk domain names into blockchain addresses, simplifying transactions, improving user experience, and reducing the risk of errors when sending assets.

Purpose:

The primary goal is to enhance MetaMask’s usability and accessibility across the Rootstock ecosystem and other EVM-compatible chains where RNS is supported. As a multichain resolver, RNS enables users to manage and resolve names across multiple chains from a single domain.

Adding native RNS support in MetaMask would:

  • Promote decentralization by supporting open naming protocols.
  • Strengthen MetaMask’s position as a multichain-friendly wallet by supporting emerging decentralized identity and naming services beyond ENS.

Additionally, the Rootstock Labs integration team is willing to collaborate closely and implement the technical integration if the proposal is accepted by the MetaMask team.

Rootstock clearly leading the back in terms of DeFi on Bitcoin. Total no-brainer to add this alongside a proper native integration. Especially with the native Ledger and Trezor integrations already in place.

Really like this proposal. The points raised here make a strong case for improving user experience through RNS integration in MetaMask—especially with human-readable names and multichain support. If it moves forward, it could bring meaningful value to the ecosystem. Great to see it!
