As an example, I have Paid Network coins in my Metamask wallet. Can I directly transfer/send them to another Metamask wallet or do I have to swap/sell them into Ethereum to send them??

You can directly send any tokens in your MetaMask wallet to another MetaMask wallet. No need to do any swapping of tokens.
