HELP - I have 62/64 hexadecimal characters for my private key - is recovery possible?

I won’t go into the details of how, but a friend essentially lost his computer, does not have the secret recovery phrase and when he went to put in the private key, he noticed that there was only 62 characters recorded instead of the 64 needed. He has no idea if the characters are missing from the start or end or where exactly. So correct me if I’m wrong but the total possibility of combinations to recover the private key would be (16*64)^2 = 1,048,576 different combinations. Is this correct? Is there any way to brute force these combinations to recover the account? Is there any legit open-source code that does this or services for recovery?

Can Metamask help with this? He does have the password and old Private key before making the new private key and transferring funds. He can’t find the seed phrase so all he has is 62 out of the 64 characters and the meta mask password.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.
