When I switch between networks in MetaMask, some of my tokens balances disappear and then appear again when i switch back. I understand that tokens can exist on diff networks, but Im little confused about how MetaMask handles the same tokens on multiple networks. How to make sure Im viewing correct token balance on correct network without manually adding token each time.
And, does switching network affects actial funs in wallet?
When you switch networks, MetaMask may show a different token balance because token balances are specific to each network. The token will only appear on the network where it was sent or where the corresponding token contract exists.
If you don’t see a token, first make sure you’re on the correct network and account. You can also verify your balance directly on the relevant block explorer. If the explorer shows the token but MetaMask doesn’t, you may need to enable token detection or add the token manually.
Switching networks itself doesn’t move your assets - it changes which network’s assets you’re viewing.

Hey there..thats perfectly normal, it just means you dont have those tokens on the network you have switched to..lets say you have mUSD on Linea,but not on Ethereum mainnet, and when you switch from Linea where you do have mUSD, to Ethereum mainnet, well you wont see that mUSD anymore, because you dont have it on Ethereum mainnet, same goes for any other token..
when you say “How to make sure Im viewing correct token balance on correct network” well just by being on the network you are trying to figure out if you have those tokens..if you’re trying to be sure you have USDC on Base, you switch to base and it will show you tokens only from Base…one more thing, only if your “view” is set on “All default networks” you might see the same token more than once (of course if you do have it on multiple networks)…for instance you can have USDC on ethereum mainnet, linea, base…in those cases, the small network icon next to the token shows you which network that particular balance belongs to..
once you manually add a token, it stays there…what might help is going to settings, Assets, and enabling “Autodetect tokens”..
no, switching networks doesn’t affect or move your actual funds, you’re simply changing which network/balances you’re viewing as i explained it above..if something is still not clear, do let us know
