In theory this would be a good idea but if it was implemented then that means hackers can then reset/change your seed phrase or settings which then would remove all control for you. What could work though is something that resets the wallet completely of any add ons whether that be connected sites, signatures, scripts attached through the blockchain for example. Almost like a sweeper bot that removes threats or have a system that detects add ons made by a third party and notifies you of a change. Nothing is ever 100% safe online and if a hacker wants something they will get it regardless of security features. The world of crypto and defi is a double edge sword because people want decentralised finance with security but it also gives the upper hand for hackers to steal anonymously.
I agree if we have proof of ownership such as onchain attestation as we have uploaded ID etc when setting up a coinbase or MetaMask account and if we can prove we own a wallet I think it would be a great opportunity for someone to offer this service for people. I have just had someone offer to help me for $750 which I obviously wont be paying, but if it was a liegitimate department of MetaMask or Coinbase and you lose access to a wallet I am sure people would pay a reasonable fee?
So you reckon some sort of kyc stuff like thing yeah
Please be careful with people offerring to “help” you as nobody can get the Secret Recovery Phrase back if you lost it. That’s how a self custodial wallet works, it puts you in full control of your wallet so you need to safely store the Secret Recovery Phrase/ private keys/ password.
Understanding Self-Custody in Crypto | MetaMask Learn Guide this article is a great read on what self custody really means. Always be careful who and what you interact with online and always do your own research before doing anything.
Yeah I am sure there would be a way to verify the wallet other than stupid seed phrase and private key. Online attestation can’t be got unless you have uploaded your drivers licence or passport when you opened the account with that addreess?? Why can’t it be simpler? I am not very experience with github and just keep getting fobbed off when it is the right seed phrase, my same wallet is just gone.
